Dan George

Field Ambassador

I grew up in Southeastern Wisconsin in a family where sports were central. Watching a Green Bay Packers game on TV with our family is an experience. I played football, basketball, and baseball during my youth; played football, basketball and ran track in junior high school; and played football and basketball into high school before my talent level maxed out. During my undergraduate years at the University of Wisconsin, I played intramural sports often serving as the organizer, recruiter, and de facto coach.

After graduating UW cum laude with an Industrial Engineering degree, I started my career at IBM in Rochester, Minnesota where we stayed for a few years before our young family moved to the Chicago area for another opportunity with IBM. A year later, my wife, Kim, and I were introduced to Jesus by a faithful pastor in a new church meeting in a high school. The pastor and his wife invited us to join them in a Navigators study. Within six months, both Kim and I had surrendered our lives to Jesus. It remains the best decision I will ever make.

I continued my career moving to Waste Management, a former consulting client, before leveraging my network to move to Accenture for 15 years then Deloitte for 9 years. I established Dan George Coaching and Development, an executive and leadership coaching practice, in November 2019. I resigned from Deloitte as an Associate Director in early 2020 to focus on the executive coaching practice.

After 30 years in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, including 20+ years of serving as small group leaders and coaches to leaders at the same church, God used life circumstances to lead Kim and me to move to Champaign in the summer of 2019. We wondered what ministry would look like. For years, I wondered how God might use my passion for sports in combination with my love for Jesus. The FCA Field Ambassador role is the opportunity to unite those two passions. Faith + Sport = FCA. I am excited to engage, equip, and empower University of Illinois coaches and athletes to be bold ambassadors for Jesus Christ.

Kim and I are blessed with two adult sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren. Zac, and his wife, Amy, live in Champaign with their son, Theo. Alex, and his wife, Sam, live in Chicago with their four children — Penny, Lincoln, Margot, and Charlie. Kim and I have had the privilege of leading several international short-term mission trips partnering with churches and ministries in Romania, Moldova, Colombia, and Haiti.

Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with his energy that he powerfully works within me.
