Calvin Bertrand
Baseball Area Representative
I was born in Urbana, IL and raised in a strong Christian home. I’m the son of a pastor, and a passion for God and baseball was instilled in me at a young age. It wasn’t until after we moved to Charleston, IL that we discovered FCA Day Camp at Centennial High School. We made the trip every summer to attend because we loved it so much. In fact, I was at Day Camp as a 7th grade camper when I decided to follow Christ for myself and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
Years later after playing baseball at Lake Land College and eventually graduating from the University of Illinois, I pursed a business career in Atlanta, GA. Although it was challenging, I was not satisfied with the direction of my life. I felt like God was calling me to do more.
After two years, God presented me with the opportunity to join the FCA staff in Atlanta, GA. My call to ministry was evident. After a year with FCA on the Atlanta Collegiate Team, I moved back to Illinois and worked as The Director of Student Ministry at a church in Charleston, IL. I continued to serve with FCA at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) as a Field Ambassador.
After a year at EIU, I moved to Champaign to become an FCA Area Representative focusing specifically on baseball ministry. I am excited to serve the Champaign-Urbana community, and I’m passionate about the mission of FCA… “To see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.” I’ll be working with baseball coaches from the U of I as well as surrounding high schools, middle schools, and travel teams. I couldn’t be more grateful and humbled for the opportunity that God has given me.
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
